Tourism, trade and the Calabar Carnival

Calabar is Cross River State's capital. The Efik people first called it Akwa Akpa, and the city lies between two rivers, the Great Kwa and the Calabar, close to the Cross River's creeks. It is divided between two local government areas, Calabar Municipal and Calabar South, which together had an estimated 571,500 people in 2022.

The city was once called the tourism capital of Nigeria, after work under Governor Donald Duke between 1999 and 2007, and it gained a name as the cleanest city in the country. The Calabar Carnival, launched in 2004, has done more than anything else to draw visitors. Beyond tourism, the economy leans on the state administration, a naval base, the harbour, the airport and a free trade zone.

That gives Calabar businesses a wide audience. Hotels, guest houses, restaurants and tour operators need to reach travellers planning a trip. Companies in the free trade zone and around the harbour need a professional face for partners abroad. We have built thousands of websites since 2013, and our hospitality work includes Zura Spa in Port Harcourt.
